Good Shepherd School for Children was established in 1967 as a grassroots effort by parents and members of the Church of Good Shepherd in west St. Louis County. At that time, St. Louis County Special School District did not accept children under six years old, nor did they accept children considered uneducable. Good Shepherd School for Children was established to meet that need. During its history the school has grown and adapted its programs to meet the needs of the St. Louis community. We are one of the few fully inclusive early childhood programs in the area, which means the children who attend Good Shepherd School for Children are integrated in classrooms with children of all abilities. The type of children served with special needs includes, Down Syndrome, autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorders. Approximately 50% of the children served by Good Shepherds programs have an identified special need. Therapeutic intervention specialists are an integral part of Good Shepherd School for Children. Our staff includes speech and language pathologists in addition to developmental, physical, and occupational therapists. An active board of directors, whose primary responsibilities are operations, advisement and fundraising, oversees the school. In 2004, Good Shepherd School for Children earned accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Good Shepherd School for Children is located on nearly three wooded acres, in a 15,000 square foot facility in Creve Coeur, Missouri. |
