Why Good Shepherd School for Children |

|
By offering an inclusive environment, we are able to maintain lower teacher to student ratios than other early childhood education centers and we have a higher level of professional expertise within the classrooms on a daily basis. Not only do specialists in early childhood education lead the classrooms, but specialists in physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, behavioral therapy, and special educators, who are also known as our developmental therapist, also support them. Everyone benefits from an inclusive environment from the children to the teachers to the parents.
Benefits of an inclusive environment to Children:
- Children learn to appreciate the similarities and differences among all people.
- The typically developing child grows up with no biases regarding children of differing abilities.
- The typically developing child serves as a role model to the special needs children, helping to accelerate their growth and learning
- All the children learn to form a wider circle of friends
- The low staff to child ratio benefits all children.
Benefits to Parents:
- Having the expertise of many early childhood specialists and therapists on site, in the classrooms on a daily basis for support, evaluation, and intervention.
- Keeping their child living and growing in the real world
- Understanding that they share many of the same challenges faced by parents of all children.
- Experiencing the humanity of others
- Gaining a broader view and new perspectives of their child's and other children's abilities and needs.
